BLACKMERLE
Blackmerle was established in 2017, grounded in a guiding philosophy of “reduced yet severe.”
Centered on this philosophy, Blackmerle speaks in a language where subtlety and severity coexist.
Anonymous yet flamboyant, subversive yet precise, the wearer exists in tension—between blending in
and standing out; concealed, yet exerting presence with indifference.
Each collection builds upon a singular, continuous wardrobe, offering seasonless interchangeability.
The narrative remains constant, while each season shifts the balance within the spectrum of subtlety
and severity—a shift in balance, not direction. It is a continuation of the same language, expressed
through different inflections.
SS26 moves this balance toward reduction, establishing a clearer foundation that bridges the current
wardrobe with what comes next through a considered development of mid and inner layers—while
maintaining the underlying severity that defines the philosophy. New colors and dyes—including ink-
coated, onion skin ink, and indigo ink—are introduced alongside an expanded shirting and innerwear
offering. Bamboo and crinkle-processed cotton-linen-ramie voile emerge as core additions.
Layered textures, nuanced tonalities, and material manipulations—distinctive to Blackmerle—further
reinforce this language, resisting conformity with restraint. “Merle” refers to a mottled coat pattern seen
in dogs, defined by irregular streaks and speckling. It is the origin of Blackmerle’s name—a stray dog in
fragments of black and grey, an emblem of balance and harmony within irregularity and severity.
The essence of Blackmerle lies in materiality and layering—the interplay of texture and tone,
accumulating into a unified whole, akin to Pointillism. A projection of masculinity that is at once rough
and soft, carried with quiet indifference.
